District Statistics

  • South Indian River Water Control District encompasses approximately 12,400 acres in Jupiter Farms, Palm Beach Country Estates, Egret Landing and Jupiter Commerce Park. There are approximately 60 miles of primary canals.
  • Did you know that if one inch of rain fell in the District it would amount to 339,405,000 gallons? That is enough water to create a 10-foot deep lake the size of 6,000 football fields.
  • The average rainfall in the District equates to 20,364,300,000 gallons.
  • If you placed all of the water the District received annually into one-gallon containers, those containers would circle the earth over 77 times.
  • The average 15-30 foot swimming pool holds approximately 15,000 gallons. Each year the District manages enough surface water to fill 1,357,620 pools.
  • The drainage flow in the District is controlled by gravity.
  • The primary drainage for the District is the responsibility of the South Florida Water Management District. The District is responsible for the "secondary" and "tertiary" drainage facilities.
  • There are approximately 189 miles of roads within the DIstrict. These roads give access to each subdivided parcel of land. Currently there are 96 miles of improved roads (paved and Open-Graded Emulsified Mix) and 92 miles of unpaved roads. The improved roads include roads that are operated and maintained by Palm Beach County, the Town of Jupiter, and private entities or owners, which consist of approximately 42 miles of roadway.
  • The District is responsible for maintaining over 376 miles of swales and canals.
  • If the length of all of the roads, canals, and swales were added together, the total distance would stretch over 600 miles, or from north of the Georgia border to the South Indian River Water Control District.

  • For the twelve month period from September 2022 through August 2023, the District received 78.80 inches of rainfall. The average annual rainfall for South Indian River Water Control District is 66.47 inches including this year's data. The 2022-2023-year rainfall was approximately 12.33 inches higher than the historical rainfall average within the District.
